ISO 9001 is by far the world’s most established quality framework, currently being used by around 897,000 organizations in 170 countries worldwide, and sets the standard not only for quality management systems, but management systems in general.

  • ISO 9000 – Fundamentals and Vocabulary: this introduces the user to the concepts behind the management systems and specifies the terminology used.
  • ISO 9001 – Requirements: this sets out the criteria you will need to meet if you wish to operate in accordance with the standard and gain certification.
  • ISO 9004 – Guidelines for performance improvement: based upon the eight quality management principles, these are designed to be used by senior management as a framework to guide their organizations towards improved performance by considering the needs of all interested parties, not just customers.

 

Each year people die or are seriously injured as a result of fires in buildings, yet many fires can be avoided by taking fire precautions. If a fire does break out, the effects can be minimised by having effective controls and procedures in place.

BSI gives recommendations on fire detection and fire alarm systems in new and existing dwellings and buildings of all sizes. The standards and publications are essential reference for specifiers, designers and  installers, including fire brigades, local authorities, housing associations, fire alarm contractors, building control officers, consulting engineers, electrical contractors and building surveyors.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 ("the Order") came into force on 1 October 2006. It applies to all non-domestic premises in England and Wales. The Order sets out the duties of the person responsible for premises (known in the Order as the "responsible person").
